Charles R Novosel, 74, of 62 Novosel Dr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at his home.
Chuck was born on May 31, 1944, in Kane, to Steven and Ruth (Hannold) Novosel who preceded him in death. He was a star athlete in his high school days, being recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates at age 14, and going on to play football at various colleges, including the University of Miami, where he earned the nickname “The Educated Toe” as a punter/kicker for the team.
Chuck proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Drill Instructor. He met and married Carolyn Louise (Sue) Troese on June 8, 1968. Chuck worked for Novosel Industries as a lumberjack for the majority of his life.
Chuck and Sue had three children, who remember them both fondly. Nicole (Brian) Hopkins of Tucson, AZ, Holli Hull of Westline, PA, and Charles (Lindsey) Novosel of Kane, PA. Chuck is also survived by his grandchildren, Tanner and Chloe ( Nicole and Brian), Nadia (Holli), and Cyrus, Lexi, Reese, and Eric (Chuck and Lindsey).
Chuck was an avid hunter and skilled outdoorsman, and loved his family. His children remember their father for his playful disposition, amazing skills on the rotisserie, and continued (nonstop) ‘reminiscing’ about his athletic days. Chuck may actually have been the one to coin the term “Back in my day….”. He enjoyed caring for his ‘farm’ and his pets, and listening to a polka or two. He had a true “Hunky” fire about him that made him endearing to his family.
Surviving, in addition to his children and grandchildren, are a sister, Patricia (Mike) Gamble of Kane; a brother-in-law John Mertz of Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Jean Mertz, his former wife, Carolyn, and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass in his memory.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
