Caroline "Carrie" V. VanDervoort, 92, passed away Thursday (September 13, 2018) at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she resided.
Born February 28, 1926, in James City, she was a daughter of the late William and Catherine Lynds Hess.
Carrie was a woman of God her entire life. She loved her family dearly and one of her key traits was her very high work ethic. She was a model parent and grandparent and left an indelible mark of love on her family members and friends
Carrie had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 75 years. Before her retirement, she had worked at Stackpole in Kane and St. Marys for 28 years.
She is survived by three children, Dennis R. VanDervoort of Rosarito Beach, Mexico, Adelaide "Addie" Rytamarie Hanson of Oceanside, CA, and Timothy VanDervoort of Sylvania, OH; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Halliwell of Camillus, NY and Bertha Kennedy of North Boston, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Arlene Sliker, Thomas Hess, Lorraine Seaman, Richard Hess, William Hess, Donald Hess, Pearl Nelson and Rosella McGowan.
Friends and family of Carrie may attend a memorial service at 11:00 am September 29, 2018, in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin J. Cook, pastor, officiating. A luncheon will follow in Bartlett Hall at the church.
