KANE - Marie Swanson, 91, of 100 High Point Drive, died Sunday (June 3, 2018) at UPMC Hamot.
She was born April 8, 1927, in Kane, the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Pearl Johnston Dougherty. On Aug. 21, 1953, in Wilcox, she married Bernard Swanson, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Kane High School, class of 1946. She had worked for Bell Telephone and also for New York and Penn in Johnsonburg and the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Kane Community Hospital.
She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Wilcox where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was a past member of the Kane Garden Club.
She is survived by one brother, Robert Dougherty of Kane; and one sister Mary Craig of San Bernardino, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and her dear friend and companion Bill Rietter of Kane.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Katherine Nordahl, Winifred Smiley, Margaret Anderson and Mary Dougherty, one brother John "Jack" Dougherty and an infant brother Billie Dougherty.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Wilcox with the Rev. David Pfleiger officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.
