Carolyn A. Bentz, a resident of Wilmington North Carolina and a native of Kane, died Friday, February 9 in Wilmington. She was 76.
Carolyn was born in Kane on April 4, 1941, the daughter of longtime residents Forrest and Alice Weaver. She attended Kane area schools, graduating in 1959.
In 1964, she married Robert K. Bentz of Kane.
Carolyn was an active member of the Kane Presbyterian Church and worked at the Warren National Bank branch in Kane. Her husband operated Bentz Furniture with his father William Bentz. Carolyn and her husband, along with Kane residents John and Chris Paup, also operated two businesses in Kane in the 1960s and 1970s: the Fabric and Yarn store, and the John Robert department store.
In 1992, Carolyn and her family relocated to Wilmington, NC. She was employed there by Belk’s department stores.
Carolyn was the mother of Steven R. Bentz, Douglas W. Bentz, and Christopher K. Bentz, all Kane natives, but now all living in Wilmington.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert Bentz in 2002 and her sister, Delores (Weaver) Dalstad in 2016. In addition to her sons, she is survived by Ruth Bentz of Kane, her mother-in-law.
Memorial services will be held in Kane at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 16 at the Cummings Funeral Home.
