Helen M. Lathrop, 53, of 717 N. Tionesta Ave., died Sunday morning (July 19) at her residence. She was born Sept 22, 1961 in Kane, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Betty (McCullough) Lathrop.
Helen graduated from Kane High School in 1979. She was very athletic and participated in volleyball, basketball and track. She held the girls javelin record there for many years and won states in the javelin in 1978.
She was employed as a cook at both the Kane Eagles Club and the James City Cafe. She was also a member of the Kane Eagles Lodge #307 where she had served as Vice-President and Past President, the VFW Lodge #1132 in Kane and the Kane Moose Lodge #130.
Surviving relatives include her long time partner Patti Heeter; three brothers, Jim, Dan and Bill Lathrop; several nieces and nephews, including her special niece Trina Thomas and many friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Ginger Lathrop Ackley.
A memorial service honoring and celebrating Helen's life will be conducted at 323 Kearny St. on Saturday July 26 from 2:00-6:00 p.m.. Arrangements are under the care of Cummings Funeral Home.
